On Thursday 20 March, the Fresh Produce Market (Jarmark Produktów Świeżych) was launched in Nowy Targ Square in Wroclaw. There were 24 stalls on display offering fresh fruits and vegetables, fruit and vegetable products, cured meats, including game products, fresh and smoked fishes, a variety of breads baked in wood-fired ovens, bagels, primary grain flours, gluten-free and sugar-free products, organic olive oils, cow's milk, sheep's milk and goat's milk matured cheeses, pesto sauces available in a number of flavours, yoghurts and cheese curds, honeys, cold pressed fruit juices, dried fruits, eggs and kvass (fermented beverage made from black or regular rye bread). The organisers guarantee that all products sold at the market are sustainable.
Miodolada (honeylade) will also be available, a honey-based beverage first presented at this spring's market opening.
Pelmeni and a Spring Cleansing Diet
Pelmeni, i.e. small dumplings popular in Russian cuisine and filled with meat and vegetables, together with Chinese meat-stuffed “saddlebags” and authentic solyanka (thick, spicy and sour soup popular in Russian and Ukrainian cuisines) will also be on offer at the market.
This year's season in Nowy Targ Square was inaugurated on Thursday with the slogan Spring Cleansing (Wiosenny detoks). To close the winter season, the organisers are planning to provide attractions such as cleansing vitamin cocktails mixing activities. Customers at the market will also enjoy the opportunity to brew cleansing potions under specialist guidance or to buy ready and tested beverages based on a number of formulas using lemon, ginger, turmeric or birch sap. Customers attending Spring Cleansing events will be able to sample juices and fruit and vegetable products from Andrzej Łaniak's farm located in the Barycz River Valley. Andrzej Łaniak significantly contributed to the creation of the trade mark “Dolina Baryczy poleca”. Yoga and zumba workshops (at 4 pm and 5 pm, respectively) are also included in the programme.
The Spring Cleansing is just the beginning of attractions. “This year's market will feature a number of unique events, we are planning to organise interesting workshops and shows”, says Ms Katarzyna Piątkowska from the Economic Development Office at the Wroclaw City Council.
Market in Nowy Targ Square
The Fresh Produce Market in Wroclaw's Nowy Targ Square will be held every week on Thursdays and Fridays (except for public holidays) from 20 March till October. Stalls will be open from 10 am to 8 pm.
